In 2004, Mrs. Beatriz Almeida de Stein, Consul General of Ecuador in Boston, MA, envisioned creating an international non-profit that assisted sick and needy children in Ecuador. It was her desire to help integrate the many different Ecuadorians in New England into a unified group. She called a meeting and gathered over 20 interested professionals and business leaders at the Ecuadorian Consulate’s Office in Needham, MA. Mrs. Stein presented her ideas to the group and shared her vision of creating an organization that connected the Ecuadorian Community in New England. She also instilled in them a deep sense of pride knowing that by working together, they could share their success with those that remained and particularly the disadvantaged and ill children in their native homeland. These founding members, doctors, business owners and educators agreed to help accomplish this objective: to provide for the well-being of underprivileged children in Ecuador.
From that moment, AENI, Association of Ecuadorians in New England, Inc., was born. The organization developed by-laws and incorporated as a 501 (C)(3) non-profit charity in Massachusetts.
Today, as we celebrate our first 10 years, this organization has donated over $500,000 worth of medical equipment, scholarships, and financial aid to needy children in Ecuador. In addition, our very successful gala and other events draw as many as 700 people from all walks of life to help achieve these objectives.
